How to boil an egg

boiled eggsEggs are a great source of protein, so I always have a container full of boiled eggs in my fridge. Boiling eggs can get tricky - some are too soft or overcooked, or hard to peel. I am going to give you my fool-proof method of boiling an egg. First, make sure your eggs are fresh. This can be done with a simple cold water test. Simply place the (uncooked) egg into the water. The closer to the bottom it is and the flatter the position, the fresher it is. Your freshest egg will sink to the bottom and lay flat. Slightly older eggs will be on the bottom but one tip or the whole egg will be vertical. If they float to the top, the eggs are old and should be discarded. My method of boiling eggs will take you 18-20 minutes. Do this once a week as you are prepping some ready-to-go proteins.

Directions:

1. Place eggs to the bottom of a large pot and fill with water just up to an inch above.

2. Bring to a boil (higher heat to start). It depends on your stove - with gas heat it usually takes 3-5 minutes to bring water to a boil.

3. Once the water is boiling, set the timer for 7 minutes. Boil for 7 minutes.

4. Turn off the heat and let stand for 7 more minutes.

5. Pour off the water and place under running cold water for a couple minutes. This helps peel them faster later. Don't skip this step!

6. Remove the eggs and place on the towel to dry. They're ready!
